Course DescriptionThis qualification reflects the role of allied health assistants who aid allied health professionals under predetermined guidelines. Depending on the setting, work may include following treatment plans for therapeutic interventions and/or conducting programs under the regular direct, indirect, or remote supervision of an allied health professional.
PathwaysThis qualification enables you to work in entry-level positions across a wide range of positions in the health sector such as Patient Care Assistance, Occupation Therapy assistance and Physiotherapy Assistance. Allied Health graduates are required in a range of different health industry setting including hospitals, medical practices, schools, and community health centres. Students who successfully complete this course may be eligible to continue further study in any health-related course.
Entry RequirementsOne of the following forms of VETRO evidence: • Attendance at Term 3 Industry Immersion Day on Tuesday 5th September 2023. • Introduction to Human and Social Sector Care Online course completion (available through Equals International) • Virtual work experience (https://virtualintern.com.au/alliedhealthsa/virtual-work-experiences/allied-health-work-experience/) • First Aid Course Certificate Home school to apply for DCSI clearance prior to course commencement.

Dates and Times35 weekly sessions at EQUALS International on Wednesdays from 08:00 until 16:00.
Commencement date 31/01/24.
At least the first three classes will be at Norwood International High School. Following that some will be at Norwood International High School, and some EQUALS in Adelaide.
Work Placement10 days
80 hours Students are required to complete a mandatory minimum of 80 hours of Work Integrated Learning within an approved Host Facility/Organisation (specialising in the delivery of Allied Health services, treatment plans, interventions and/or programs). Students will be required to hold evidence of: • Hand Hygiene Australia certificate of completion • Safe Handling Practices certificate (Hand hygiene and safe work practices are included in the course). • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid • Immunisation evidence • DCSI clearance. Equals support with finding placements, if requred.

Selection ProcessThis course is appropriate for students in Year 11 and 12 with a strong interest in the allied health industry. Successful applications will have completed an LLN test and participated in an informal interview. This will take place on Monday 11th September, 2023.
Orientation DetailsStudents will be provided with induction information and materials at the first session.
Public TransportEQUALS International is located in Currie St in the CBD with several public transport options available nearby. Buses to NIHS are H22, H20, 639, 638, H24, 619, N22
